The Marin City Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity Prevention (CX3) is a state funded project distributed via the County of Marin and Administered in Marin City by the Marin City Community Services District. The Marin City CX3 project team recently completed their first year of the four year project. The first year focused on looking at the community’s access to healthy foods, active living opportunities, walkability, and safety. Marin City residents, who made up the CX3 team long with Elaini Neguisse from the County of Marin, surveyed the community, did extensive community outreach and reported the findings in March. Please click here to view the findings report presentation.
Now the team will be working on ways to address the findings. Recently created in response to the lack of access to food in Marin City, The Marin City Food Access Coalition started meetings. They are currently looking for support from all community organizations, residents, and other interested parties to bring a healthy Grocery Store to Marin City. The Coalition is looking to transform Marin City from a food desert to a food hub for Southern Marin. Please contact Terrie Green for more information (contact listed below). MCCSD was also given a grant to complete the first phase of a grocery store market feasibility study which in projected to be completed by August. The District will be pursuing other funding to complete the community outreach and implementation stages of the study. For more pictures click here
